Welcome to the "Current
Exhibit." The current exhibit is actually a work
in progress. None of the images here are for sale at this time. After these
images undergo post-processing and editing, they will be for purchase in one of
the main galleries. PLEASE READ: As some
of you may already know, the internet is a great place to view information,
be entertained, and learn. Because the internet was never meant for many of the
current uses, many web-site developers have had to create and use workarounds.
So, decisions have to be made with regard to quality vs. fast download. I have
chosen to create and design digitalbrushes.com more towards the quality side. So
the trade off is some of the slower computers and the slower internet
connections may take a longer time to load. But I believe it is worth it. So
please be patient as you look around. Especially with the slideshows. But don't
let that discourage you from viewing. Have a glass of wine, beer or coffee and
enjoy!
Thank you.
This Current Exhibit is about
one of the many battles in our great Civil War. February, 2005, I decided to
visit my first civil war re-enactment. This was just an awesome surprise! If you
have never been to one, I highly recommend you take the family and go. They are so much fun. Many, if not all, the re-enactors are very
knowledgeable and friendly about the details of the Civil War time period. There
were around 3,500 re-enactors made up of cavalry, infantry, 20 cannons and many
officers. Plus, there are actually campgrounds where the re-enactors live as many
of these re-enacted events are two to three days. You can walk through these
campgrounds and explore and feel what it was like back in that time period. What
surprised me the most was how authentic and detailed the re-enactors and
campgrounds were. I actually felt a little funny in the clothes I was wearing
after being there in the camps. I was so excited, I started taking shots so
fast that I had to slow down and compose my self as well as the photos I was
taking. It all seemed so real and unreal that I felt I was in a time warp and
may never get another chance to shoot this again! Kind of kidding! I'm Ok now.
This particular battle took place in Aiken, South Carolina --thereby named
The Battle of
Aiken. In this battle, the Confederate soldiers won. You could tell by the biased
crowd. Great fun!
I thoroughly enjoyed the day
visiting and taking many photos. I'm already planning for next year to go to
Gettysburg. I have learned that this is "THE" civil war re-enactment. You have
to book it a year in advance. But there are many other smaller but highly
recommended re-enactments besides Gettysburg, just like "The Battle of Aiken."
Just do a search on the net for Civil War re-enactments. If you see some guy out
there running around frantically taking photos like this time-warp is going to
end, it will probably be me. Drop me an Email if you have any questions. Enjoy!
